The Organ in Bedale Parish Church
A Description

Pedal Organ: The Sub Bass is voiced to be both very gentle and firm enough to support a substantial organ well.  The Gamba is similarly telling, the Violone providing a good stringy diapason as needed.  The Open Woods are telling, and the large reeds regulated to be larger than standard, so that enclosure can reduce them to standard, and opening up produce a magnificent full organ.

Choir Organ: The department's traditional stops are voiced in Old English style, but classical boldness for an effective Positif when the box is fully open.  It makes an effective addition to the small Great and Swell flue choruses coupled.  With the Solo `small full swell reed chorus' coupled, an effective counterpart to the coupled small Great and small Swell reed choruses.  The Dulciana is particularly sweet and gentle.

Great Organ: The two diapason families have good bite, and provide a minor and major chorus each.  All mixtures can be used with the flute family, although the Pleinjeu is a very full and large mixture.  The Posaunes are voiced like early Father Willis Tubas, but very transparent though very bright; they are regulated to be rather large when unenclosed, so that dramatic conclusions can be had.

Swell Organ: The célestes are gentle and bright, but go well even with the diapasons.  The Salicional is very mild and the Gamba quite rich.  The Fifteenth is voiced as a bright Doublette (15,22), and the Sesquialtera is particularly strong, enabling it to be a very effective pseudo-reed, especially with the octave couplers; with the Horn and Contra Fagotto it then produces a good imitation of a Willis reed chorus; without it the Horn provides a brighter Harrison effect.  The Trumpet(te) family is very much more powerful, as is the Pleinjeu, each providing a very substantial addition to Great full choruses.  The sub octave coupler allows two very useful 32ft reeds via Swell to Pedal, and judicious dramatic additions for the upper manual toccatas.  The department is regulated to be as large as the Great when fully open.  The two octave couplers with the smaller stops produce many beautiful and very useful small choruses.

Solo Organ: The imitative stops are regulated to the normal largish size of a Solo department.  The reeds each have their own quality, but are voiced so that together they produce a bright and sharp small full swell effect, particularly with the octave coupler.  The Fanfare Trumpet is reminiscent of Willis Trompettes Militaires, and the Tuba Mirabilis of a Willis Tuba.  Owing to the limitations of the generator systems these latter two stops cannot be quite the size needed to dominate the full organ, but nevertheless are suitably large.
