The 1871 Henry Jones Organ in the
Russian Gnessin Academy of Music

In October 1995 we oversaw the arrangments for the acquisition, dismantling, and shipping to Russia a small Henry Jones two manual pipe organ for the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow.
Over the course of the following twelve months the organ was reassembled, given some minor renovation, installed in the Academy's small concert hall, and finally inaugurated last February, 1997, at a special concert that received full press,  live radio and TV coverage.

The organ has been installed within a small apsidal alcove which helps project and diffuse the sound into the hall very well.  It will be used continually as a practice and rehearsal instrument for many, many years to come, and so will used in a way that would have delighted Henry Jones.  The Academy is delighted with the tonal quality of the organ and its presence.

The programme included compositions for solo organ as well as for different ensembles with organ.
Together with a number of distinguished Russian organists, Mr Andrew Carter, FRCO, the Chargé d'Affaires of the British Embassy in Moscow played music by Arne, Walond, and Walton.
The concert was considered to be a resounding success.
